I got a speeding ticket, today—my first one ever. 40 in a 25. It was sort of a transition zone where a back road dumps into town. It's one of those roads where no one actually drives 25 (people going over twice the limit is not uncommon)... freshly paved, nice and wide, double yellows. But there are a few side streets where cops can hang out, so I should've been more careful.

I'm not 21, so I have to go to court and take a driver's safety course. Good news is it'll get taken off my record if I pass the course and don't get ticketed again for a few months. I don't know exactly how many; haven't looked it up yet and the officer was pretty uninformative, though he was a nice guy.

Also, the timing sort-of works out. I'm a full time student currently in between jobs, but I've been applying to places so hopefully I'll have some sort of income by the time I go to court and actually fork up the fine ($120).

Congratulations!! Welcome to the club that we members like to call "Outlaw Speeders"! It sounds like you are already familiar with the court-ordered initiation fee, so I'll just skip right to the rules.

Rule #1: whether you want to or not, you WILL get another ticket in the next few years.

Rule #2: everyone has to fight their first ti... Wait, nevermind, wrong club.

I got stopped for going 80 in a 55 zone some time ago, around 7:30 in the morning. told the cop I was on my way to a local Cars and Coffee, the cop looked over all my documents and starts off. You were doing 80 on a 55 thats a $200 fine and 3 points, you have an expired Insurance card, that is a $150 fine, you don't have a front license plate on that is a $100 fine, but I'm going to let you with just a ticket for the license plate because you are a car guy.. I'm not kidding, I really thought I was done for.. but I thanked him shook his hand and left, later when I went to pay the fine turns out it was only a $54 fine of an obscured licence plate. Not all of them are out to get you. There are some really great guys in the force.
